Fishing Technology and Fisheries Engineering

Introduction:

The Department of Fishing Technology and Fisheries Engineering was started on 14.11.2014. Our objective is to undertake teaching, research and extension in the field of Fishing Technology and Fisheries Engineering. We offer courses for undergraduates on fishing gear materials and designing, fabrication of fishing gears, fishing technique, fishing methods, fishing crafts, marine engines, navigation equipments, sea safety appliances, deck fittings and machineries, refrigeration engineering, fish processing machineries and aquaculture engineering, etc. This department shall provide efficient technical and professional man power for the field of Fishing Technology and Fisheries Engineering.

Objectives:

  • To offer UG courses in Fishing Technology and Fisheries Engineering
  • To conduct studies on fishing gears, fishing crafts and equipments in Fishing Technology
  • To develop and popularise appropriate sustainable technologies for the growth of marine and inland fisheries sector
  • Assessment of suitability of deep-sea fishing gear with special reference to the concepts of maximum sustainable yield, preservation of environment and ecology of marine ecosystem
  • To introduce Eco friendly and low energy fishing gears to reduce cost of fishing besides minimizing the use of petroleum and also emission of CO2 based natural fuels for fishing
