4th Sports and College Day of the Fisheries College and Research Institute, Ponneri

The Fourth Sports and College Day of the Fisheries College and Research Institute, Ponneri was celebrated on 27.06.2018. The day began with Sports and the inaugural ceremony began at 9 am in the college ground in which, Dr. B. Ahilan, Dean i/c of the institute and also the Chief Guest of the sports inauguration ceremony took salute of the march past contingents of students in the presence of Physical Director, Dr. Suruli Muruganandan and Sports Officer, Mr. P. Velmurugan, Asst. Professor, DAEM. To enliven the sports event, the Olympic Torch was taken up by the athletes, which was followed by oath taking ceremony by the students. The sports meet was declared open by the chief guest by lighting the torch as well as flying off Pigeon and balloons into the azure sky. About 14 sports events (Indoor-5; Outdoor-9) were conducted and more than 200 students actively participated in the track and field events with true spirit of sportsmanship. Friendly sports events were also conducted between faculty and students. All the sports events concluded in the morning session. <br>
The entire campus started to have a festive look in the post lunch session of the day for the intramural cultural festival organized as a part of college day celebration with pomp and fervour by the Students Association. A total of 10 off and on-stage events such as Fruit carving, Rangoli, art of photography, art out of waste, mime, adzap, solodance, chart painting, solo singing and group dance were organized to exhibit the talents of the students. All the winners and runners of both sports and college day were felicitated with medals, certificates, and trophies in the prize distribution ceremony held in the late evening in the institute’s seminar hall. Dr. Antony David Nathan, Principal i/c, L & G College, Ponneri was the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony. The overall trophy of Sports as well as College day was won by Second year B.F.Sc students (Hilarious Hawks). The chief guest also released the college’s annual magazine “Rainbow Reef”. For his endless support, Physical Director, Dr. Suruli Muruganandan was honoured with a memento by the Dean i/c, FC & RI, Ponneri. Dr. Cheryl Antony, Vice President, Students’ Association and Dr. Balasundari, Coordinator of final year students (Skylarks) lauded Mr. Naveen Rajeshwar, Sports Secretary, Mr. Ajith Kumar, Literary Secretary, Mr. Sakthi Saravanan, Editor, Rainbow Reef and other office bearers of the Students’ Association of the college for successfully organizing the programmes of the day. Sports Officer, Mr. P. Velmurugan, Asst. Professor, DAEM offered the vote of thanks. The day concluded with a mouth-watering feast in the hostel arranged for all the staffs and students of the institute
