Integrated Mangrove Tide-Fed Aquaculture System

  • Utilizing the tidal flow for aquaculture purpose
  • Expanding mangrove through aqua culture practice
  • Culturing of shrimps, milkfish, sea bass, mullets and mudcrab either in mono-culture systems or in polyculture .
  • Since tidal flow is utilized for water intake and discharge in ponds the accumulation of organic matter is very low and the risk of outbreak of disease is minimal. Daily water exchange is done naturally in the ponds
  • With the repeated failures in shrimp production due to outbreak of white spot disease, many farmers have stopped culture of shrimps. This improved traditional method by integrating mangroves, selective stocking and by utilizing tides by reducing the pumping cost the aquaculture practice will revive.
  • The recurring cost on pumping which is incurred in pump fed ponds is not incurred as the tidal flow is utilized for filling and discharge.
