Welcome to Directorate of Incubation and Vocational Training in Fisheries (DIVF)

TNJFU established a Centre for Fisheries Management, Policy and Planning (CeFIMAPP) in accordance with the Section 4 and 29 (1) of the TNJFU Act. The CeFIMAPP became Directorate and named as Directorate of Fisheries Technology, Training and Incubation (DFTTI) with its Headquarters at Mandapam. Later, it was renamed as Directorate of Incubation and Vocational Training in Fisheries (DIVF) with effect from 14.04.2018. The CeFIMAPP was originally formed with the following objectives:

  • To evolve into knowledge institution by developing and providing database for policy development towards sustainable fisheries management.
  • To pool research output generated in the University and fisheries statistics available with the State, Central and other agencies for the purpose of analysis to arrive at strategies for development of fisheries in the State.
  • To involve in management of information resources, utilization of information services and technologies and studies of policy and economics in fisheries sector
  • To support the Government in formulating policies for
  • Sustenance and management of fishery resources
  • Livelihood for fishers, and
  • Promotion of commercial ventures in fisheries

In addition to the above, DIVF will be responsible for the following core Activities

  • Creation of database of research output
  • Collection of regional, national and international fisheries information and statistics for developing the database
  • Analyse, interpret and make predictions on the course of fisheries development in the State and support the Government in evolving suitable policies for future development
  • Maintain a digital library for compiling the database
  • Work on information integration and evolve improved services for fisheries sector
  • Work with stake holders to manage capture fisheries and aquaculture

The DIVF is committed to promote ICT driven technology and information dissemination system for quick, effectual and cost-effective delivery of messages to all the stakeholders in Fisheries.

DIVF – released " KnowURFish " a Mobile Android App for the benefit of Fisheries Stakeholders'' during the III Extension Education Council meeting of TNJFU held at Nagapattinam recently.

The Mobile App was released by Dr.J.Vasanthakumar, a well known Agricultural Extension Expert and Former Dean Agriculture-Annamalai University.

Dr.D.Sukumar, Director, (DIVF), Dr.M.Nagoor Meeran, D.E.E and Dr.K.Rathnakumar, Registrar i/c and other members of EEC were present on the occasion.

This App gives information about the fishes available in Tamil Nadu coast with a web link to Fishbase.org. Users can search for the names of fish both in English and Tamil.

This app is a Free App available for free download in Google Play Store

The DIVF has been operating a NADP Scheme on Establishment of Fisheries Training Institute at Mandapam, Ramanathapuram District since 09.11.2017 with a budget outlay of 450 lakh. The scheme has the following objectives:

  • To create skilled manpower for industry requirements at various levels
  • To empower underprivileged youth from rural and semi urban communities leading to employment and income generating opportunities
  • To create training facilities on sea safety, engine maintenance. Omboard fish handling and to carry out management studies pertaining to sustainable exploitation of deep sea resources of Tamil Nadu Coast
  • Empowering fisherfolk from socially and economically backward sections and helping them augment their family income by providing meaningful skill trainings in navigation and seamanship and marine engine maintenance
  • Developing rural enterprise by creating rural entrepreneurs with eco-friendly and sustainable technologies
