Report of the Farmers – Technical Person Interaction on the Occasion of World Fisheries Day
The College of Fisheries Engineering TNJFU, Nagapattinam organized Farmers- Technical Person Interaction on the occasion of World Fisheries Day (21.11.2024). The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. N. Felix chaired the farmer’s technical person interaction on the occasion of World Fisheries Day, and the following members were present.

- The Dean i/c., College of Fisheries Engineering, TNJFU, Nagapattinam welcomed the gathering and University officials.
- The event was followed by presidential address by Honorable Vice Chancellor, TNJFU, Nagapattinam. The Vice Chancellor focused on the need for marketing of inland farmed fish without the involvement of middleman. Moreover he focused on importance of value added products made through inland harvested fishes by giving wide publicity. He also focused on the importance of promotional videos for fish and fishery products.
- The farmers interacted with the Registrar, Controller of Examination, Director, Directorate of Sustainable Aquaculture, Dean, College of Fisheries Engineering and Assistant Professor and DFS Head (i/c), TNJFU, Nagapattinam.
- R. Mohanasundar, Poolangudi, Kilvelur, enquired for insurance for the inland fish farmers. In this regard, the registrar has informed that already insurance is available and the monthly sampling has to be taken to avail the insurance.
- S. Shanmugavelu, Alivalam, Thiruvarur, requested that students from TNJFU, must visit his farm and other villages to offer ideas for improving the fish culture practices. Respected Vice Chancellor agreed to the farmer’s request.
- Dr. C. Kalidass, Sigar, Aanthakudi, Kilvelur, requested that the government should assist him for the breeding of recently ban lifted Roopchand fish. Its identification of male and female and breeding technique. He also insisted 3i (Interest, Innovation, and Implementation). Respected Vice Chancellor agreed to the farmer’s request.
- G.Rajagopal, Pudukottai, requested for technology of value added products from our university. Respected Vice Chancellor provided him the details of processing unit of university.
- G. Ramakrishnan, Nagapattinam, insisted to give wide coverage for fisheries products through TV programmes, Fish Thiruvizha and popularization of fish soup through fish kiosk. Respected Vice Chancellor agreed to this point.
- K.Vembu, and V. Ramani, Molithidal, Sikkal both the value added fish product entrepreneurs informed that they are not able to sell their dry fish because they are processing hygienically which increases the production cost and the consumers of preparing low cost, low quality products. In this regard respected vice Chancellor informed that the mindset of the consumer is to be changed with the programmes of the university.
