Vice-Chancellor’s Visit to the CeSA Centres

The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, visited the Krishnagiri Barur Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture, Barur, on the forenoon of 13.06.2025. Th. Somu Sunder Lingam R, Assistant Professor explained and demonstrated the Centre activities, ongoing TN-IAMP scheme activities and other work progress in the Centre. Followed by the discussion, the Respected Vice Chancellor, visited the farm facility and stocked the adult size Pacu in rearing ponds for developing them as brooders. Further, he distributed 2000 numbers of pureline GIFT tilapia seed to the Department-certified farmers for commercial culture activity. Finally, a discussion was held in which Pacu project plan of work, manpower requirements and possibility of further revenue generation were discussed.

On the afternoon of 13.06.2025, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam visited the Erode Bhavanisagar Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture, Bhavanisagar. He observed the various aquaponics demo units established under TNIAM Project in the Centre. During, this visit three beneficiaries Ms. Mythili, Mr. Karthick and Mr. Aranganathan, under the TNIAM Project who were interested in starting a small backyard ornamental fish unit visited the centre and met with the Vice Chancellor. He interacted with the 3 beneficiaries and provided insight into their plans, while handing over brood Sword Tail fishes to initiate their small backyard ornamental units. This was followed by induced breeding of Catla by the Vice Chancellor. Later in the evening he discussed regarding the man power and other activities in the Centre.

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor visited the Trichy Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture (CeSA), Trichy on the forenoon of 14.06.2025. During the visit, he carried out a detailed inspection of all rooms, training halls, laboratories, conference hall, and the Ornamental Fish Culture and Breeding Unit. He also interacted with all the staffs and asked several insightful questions regarding the ongoing activities at the Centre. The Vice-Chancellor instructed that all the tanks should be in operation and emphasized the importance of expanding breeding efforts by including more species and strains. He verified the functionality of the biofilter systems and noted the exact count and capacity (in litres) of all tanks which is utilized for culture and breeding purpose. He also enquired about the staff strength at the Centre and the training and extension activities being conducted.  He advised the Centre incharge to investigate the water quality issues affecting the egg development of certain species and suggested exploring diversified ornamental fish breeding with a focus on different species and strains for improved outcomes and potential commercial use.

On the afternoon of 14.06.2025, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor visited the Thanjavur Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture, Thanjavur.  In the Visit, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor met with staff and discussed the activities of the centre, and viewed the availability of facilities and resources at the premises. Followed by the discussion, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor stocked the 500 Jayanti rohu seeds in the perennial pond.  He also planted a sapling in one of the vegetable pots during the visit.  The Vice-Chancellor also inspected the ongoing work by the Highways Department in front of the Centre and Kayalagam.
