10th Convocation Ceremony

The 10th convocation ceremony of the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University was held on 03.11.2025, at the university campus under the chairmanship of the Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu and Chancellor of the University, Thiru. R. N. Ravi. At this convocation ceremony, degrees were awarded in person to a total of 435 students, including 283 Bachelor of Fisheries Science, 27 B.Tech (Fisheries Engineering), 11 B.Tech (Energy and Environmental Engineering), 2 B.Tech (Fisheries Nautical Technology), 26 B.Tech (Biotechnology), 19 B.Tech (Food Technology), 17 B.B.A (Fisheries Business Management), 53 (Bachelor of Vocation Course), 46 Master of Fisheries Science, 3 M.B.A (Fisheries Business Management), 4 Master of Technology and 21 Ph.D. students. In addition, 77 students are to receive their degrees by post.

The Honourable Governor awarded a total of 86 medals to students for various academic achievements. For the 2020-2021 batch, Selvi. S. Bhavadharani received 10 medals in Bachelor of Fisheries Science, Selvi. M. Brindha received 3 medals in B.Tech (Fisheries Engineering), Selvi. G.M. Dharsica and Selvan. P.J. Jason Prasangi Paul each received 1 medal in B.Tech (Biotechnology), Selvi. K.C. Ahila Benet received 1 medal in B.Tech (Food Technology), and R.P. Hemalatha received 3 medals in B.B.A (Fisheries Business Management). Similarly, for the 2021-2022 batch, Selvan. S. Kavi Revanth received 11 medals in Bachelor of Fisheries Science, Selvi. K. Vidhya, Selvan. K. Naveen Kumar, and Selvan. V. Karthikeyan each received 1 medal in the Bachelor of Vocation Course, and Selvan. O. Himanshu Bhagde received 2 medals in M.B.A (Fisheries Business Management). Additionally, for the 2022-2023 batch, Selvi. P.N. Aishwarya received 7 medals in Master of Fisheries Science, Selvi. S. Ayesha Jasmin received 1 medal in M.Tech (Fisheries Engineering), Selvan. Prakhar Sharma received 1 medal in M.Tech (Biotechnology), and Selvi. M. Joshna received 4 medals in the Ph.D. program.

The chief guest of the convocation ceremony, Dr. Joykrishna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), gave the convocation address. In his address, he praised the university for creating many new colleges, institutes, Training and Incubation Centres in fisheries over the last 13 years. He noted that every year, about 30 to 40 Postgraduate and Doctoral students from this university joining at the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai. He also pointed out that by 2050, the world population will be more than 9 billion and India's population will be 1.67 billion, and food and livelihood will increase accordingly.He emphasized that the fisheries department will play a major role in meeting the food needs of the people in the coming years.

He said that since there are a large number of young people in our country, the fisheries production should be used to increase individual income and improve the country's economy and fisheries. He also said that the annual growth of the fisheries sector should be increased from 6% to 9% in the coming years and that this goal can be achieved through graduates with Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees starting government, private and self-employed jobs. He said that the role of fisheries education and professionals is vital in this transformative journey of making India a leading producer and consumer of quality fish in the world. He highlighted that globally, fisheries education supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water), by promoting environmentally sustainable food systems. He mentioned that the central budget for the 2025–26 financial year has allocated ₹2,704 crore to the fisheries department, which stands as a testament to India’s achievement as a global leader in aquaculture and seafood exports. He also advised the students to make the best use of the opportunities before them to serve the nation.

Finally, he noted that the First Indian Fisheries Students’ Innovation and Startup Conference (IFSISC 2025), organized by TNJFU earlier this year, was a great success, and said that he was very pleased to have witnessed it. Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor N. Felix, welcomed everyone and read out the university's report. In the report, he highlighted the achievements in education, research, and extension activities under 40 constituent units of the university spread across the state. Before the Convocation, the Hon’ble Governor planted Avicennia mangrove plant in order to expand the area of mangrove forest ecosystem in the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University Campus. The Hon’ble Governor also inaugurated the Biofloc Technology - Student Experiential Learning and Research Unit for the benefit of students in the University Campus.
