The “Ornamental Fish Breeding Unit” was inaugurated on 17.09.2025 at the Institute of Fisheries Post Graduate Studies (IFPGS), Chennai by Dr. R. Prabakaran, Former Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS, in the august presence of Dr. N. Felix, Vice-Chancellor, TNJFU, Dr. B. Manimaran, Former Vice-Chancellor, TNJFU, Dr. P. Chidambaram, Registrar, and Dr. A. Uma, Dean (Basic Sciences), IFPGS. The project is implemented under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) scheme of ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow, with Dr. E. Suresh, Assistant Professor, Department of Fish Genetics and Breeding, IFPGS, serving as the Principal Investigator. This initiative is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, livelihood security, and socio-economic empowerment of Scheduled Caste communities in Tamil Nadu by establishing sustainable ornamental fish breeding units and providing technical capacity-building support.
