CELEBRATION OF WORLD FISHERIES DAY

On the occasion of World Fisheries Day, Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University held a celebration on 21.11.2025 at Vilunthamavadi village, Nagapattinam district. The Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. N. Felix, inaugurated the event, and delivered a special address to the aquaculture farmers. In his address, the Vice-Chancellor detailed the modern technologies that can be used in freshwater aquaculture in a simple and highly profitable manner. As part of the event, fish seeds of Indian major carp species such as Catla, Rohu, and Mrigal were stocked in farm ponds. As a highlights of the program, the Gift Tilapia and Seabass fishes stocked in the ponds of the Vilunthamavadi village farm as part of the impact study project that was launched 7 months ago by the KVK, were harvested that day. It is noteworthy that the Gift Tilapia (900 grams) and Seabass (750 grams) grew in weight. The harvested fish were offered for sale to the villagers and fish traders in the presence of the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor.
